Not allergic!
Dec. 13th, 2006 04:18 pmI just got back from a visit to the allergist where they tested me for allergies to cats, dogs, feathers, molds, trees, grasses, and weeds, and I'm not allergic to any of them. Yay!
I apparently have what's called -- as you might expect -- "non-allergic rhinitis". Which means that there are no allergic reactions or histamines involved -- I have hypersensitive nasal nerves that overreact to irritants; essentially, I react to itchy stuff in my nose like I've been pepper-sprayed.
I now have a prescription for a nasal spray that, while technically an antihistamine, is effective for 80%+ of people with non-allergic rhinitis by blocking or damping the overreaction.
Yay!
