Applying "geek" to "sewing"
Jun. 22nd, 2004 10:17 amStayed up late last night turning the instructions for creating a bodice sloper into an Excel spreadsheet. (Hey, don't ever say that you'll never have a use for trigonometry.) I can now paste in a column of measurements and it will automatically calculate all the points necessary to create a two-dart sloper in two versions: a normal one with ease, and a latex one that assumes a 10% stretch.
This should vastly cut down on the time it takes me to make a pattern, which before now required lots of manual tweaking of points in FreeHand, and only ever really worked for latex or other stretchy fabrics which will forgive a lot of errors.
On to testing -- I'll see if it works on the dress form. I'm pretty confident that it's fine for a non-busty figure, but the trial pattern using
savannarama's measurements looked weird; the dress form is fairly curvy, so it should be a good test.
Once I'm satisfied that it works (after any necessary tweaking) then I'll do the same for skirt and pants slopers.
(Thanks to
seannemarie for loaning me the book with the instructions.)
In other news, I'm trying to decide if I should join the Seattle STFU forum.
morfydd was talking about it last nght at game, and it is true that the regular crackboard has pretty much lost its luster for me (I only read two or three forums anymore instead of the whole thing obsessively).
In other other news, I'm aware that our bosses had little choice but to allow my highly valuable and nigh-irreplacable co-worker to bring her new baby into work with her several days per week, because it was that or lose her entirely, but I'm getting really really tired of baby-fussing as the backdrop to my work environment. Twitch twitch.
